Our Induction to Hiring Interns


After screening ~100 internship applications and interviewing ~30 teenage candidates over a period of 3 weeks, I admitted to Anuj that my initial process and expectations of hiring interns was a blunder. In addition to my admission, we both were having second thoughts on whether we would have the time and patience to sow a strong internship program and reap its benefits. It has been less than a year since we reinitiated Tacto, and although at the start of the month Tacto was 11 people strong, we had no middle management and hardly any excess capacity within the team.

Just before sending out the offers, we took a moment to contemplate on our motivations, selection process and expected outcomes. Here’s a rudimentary summation. The “Send” button was eventually pressed.
